4TH WOMEN'S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS & ALL AMERICAN OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS NEW YORK 2003

     On 21st of June in New York's Manhattan Center Sports Hall the 4th Women's World Championships and All American Open Championships were held. 174 fighters representing 24 countries pariticpated in the event.
     In the very exciting final of men openweight category Brazilian Ewerton Teixeira met with Sergey Osipov from Russia. There was no result after the 1st round, neither after the 2nd. Difference of fighters' weight was not big enough. Number of broken boards was the same. After the last extension Teixeira won by 4:1 decision. Doing so, the 22 years old Brazilian fighter won the American Championships for the 3rd time in a row. 
     In Women's World Championships - kyokushin fenomenon Ewa Pawlikowska from Poland won the lightweight category for the 3rd time in the history. The other two categories were won by Russians Natalia Zmeeva (middleweight) and Olga Rudenok (heavyweight).
     In the special One Match Fight Glaube Feitosa from Brazil won with Japanese Atsushi Kadoi. The match lasted 3 rounds. There was draw after the 1st one and two others were for Feitosa. Kancho Shokei Matsui demonstrated kata "Sushiho" as well as self-defence application. Kancho lead also the technical clinic in Manhattan's NYC Dojo on the next day with participation of 100 World Championships competitors and others. Second part of the training was lead by Shihan Bobby Lowe (8 dan) - International Comitee Chairman.
     Organiser of the championships was IKO Kyokushinkaikan International Department lead by Shihan Katsuhito Gorai.

After the second extension still there was no result. Difference of fighters' weight was not big enough. Number of broken boards was the same. After the last extension Teixeira won by 4:1 decision.

20TH JAPAN WEIGHT CATEGORY CHAMPIONSHIPS OSAKA 2003

     The 20th Japan Weight Category Championships took place on June 7-8 in Osaka. 280 fighters took part in the event organised by IKO Kyokushinkaikan. Kancho Shokei Matsui opened officially the championships, which gathered couple thousands of spectators.

17TH EUROPEAN WEIGHT CATEGORY CHAMPIONSHIPS UZHGOROD 2003

3RD CZECH WEIGHT CATEGORY CHAMPIONSHIPS PRAGUE 2003

     The 3rd Czech Weight Category Championships took place on April 6th in Praha. About 60 fighters took part in the event organised by sensei Jiri Potys - President of CzKKO. Tomas Kassl from Praha was awarded as the best fighter of the championships.

DUTCH WEIGHT CATEGORY CHAMPIONSHIPS DORDRECHT 2003

     On 6 April in Dordrecht the Dutch Weight Category Championships were held. 60 fighters from 20 Dutch clubs took part in the event, that gathered about 800 spectators. Due to the open status of the championships the following guest countries participated in it: Spain, Denmark, Germany and Belgium.
     The tournament was supported by the official Dutch Budo Federation of which Dutch Kyokushin  Karate Organization is a member. The Dutch Budo Federation is part of the Dutch National Sport and Olympic Sports Organization. Officials of all these organizations were present. For the coverage in the next edition, the main editor of the most important Dutch Budo magazine was present too.
     Fighters as well as the judges represented a high level. Prize for the fastest knock out went to Vincent Du Pree, who used jodan mawashigeri technique in the 25th second of his fight. The most spectacular was the final in men heavyweight cateogory between German's Eduard Wallmen and Pablo Estensero from Spain. As both of the fighters are experienced and were well prepared for the tournament, there was no result in the first three minutes of the fight, nor in the 2-minute extension. The weight difference was only 3 kilograms. Number of the broken boards (3 techniques) was 13 boards for each. The last extension was two minutes after which decision was obligatory. After this extension there were two red and two white flags. The referee gave his decision to Wallmen, but both fighters were equally matched.
     The championships were broadcasted LIVE by the local radio and TV. A professional video tape was made during the tournament.
     Chairman of the organizing comitee was shihan Ton van Rijin - Vice President of DKKO. The main referee was shihan Peter Vogt.
